Move Over Martha!
Ok, maybe that's too bold a title for this post, but I am feeling super crafty today, so I'm rolling with it!
Anyone else sick of their kids asking for Play-Doh every time you make a trip to the Target? I know I am! I have been telling my toddlers for a couple of months now that we can just make our own dough at home, that doesn't stink, and they can make it whatever color they want. So after begging me for 2 months, today I gave in and we made our own play-doh.
Luckily I had all of the ingredients in my pantry, and you probably do too! Here is the recipe:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 Tbsp Cream of Tartar
1 Tbsp olive or vegetable oil
1 cup water
Food coloring and essential oils are optional but fun! (Don't be the non-fun mom)
(I only use Young Living oils, so that's what I'm sharing in my recipe)
Mix the first 4 ingredients together in a pot, then add the water and stir over medium heat until the dough clumps together (about 5 min). Remove from the pot and give it a minute or so to cool off. Knead the dough and add a bit of flour if it's still sticky. I then cut it into 4 even pieces and we added food coloring and essential oils to each section. The best part of this DIY is that you can use whatever oils you want for your kids!
So for example, if your kids are being unruly devil spawn, you might choose to add some Lavender or Peace & Calming to chill them out. If they are whining or fighting with each other non-stop because it's summer break and everyone in the house is sick of each other, you might want to throw in a little Orange oil. And for us, I have toddlers with colds, so I made up some dough with Thieves oil in it to help out their little immune systems and kick the colds to the curb.
My point here is that the sky is the limit when it comes to DIY projects, including this one. If you don't have or use essential oils in your home yet, 1. Why not?? 2. Let's chat and I'll hook you up!
Also, watch out Martha Stewart, I'm coming for ya!!
